KIRI Wrap Shirt — Cheongsam-Inspired Curved Wrap Shirt Pattern
The KIRI Wrap Shirt is a precise balance of structure, flow, and asymmetry — a modern expression of Roughcut’s relic-inspired design language, shaped heavily by the curved geometry and diagonal closures found in traditional Chinese cheongsam (qipao) tailoring.
Designed as the natural counterpart to the Kaze Shirt and a perfect match for the Kumo Wrap Pants, this silhouette blends East Asian garment structure with crisp, architectural lines.
This pattern focuses on curved geometry, modular wrapping, and clean panel shaping rather than overwhelming complexity — making it ideal for ambitious makers ready to level up their craft.
The Kiri features an asymmetrical front body, sculpted through a single sweeping panel that references the iconic diagonal cheongsam closure as it carries the placket from collarbone to hem.
An internal collar stand mirrors the crisp height and minimal structure of a traditional Mandarin collar, giving the neckline presence without rigidity.
Two concealed wrap extensions emerge from the side seams, designed to pass behind the waist and tie at the back — creating its signature cinched cheongsam-influenced shape without interrupting the front silhouette.
The lower body finishes with Kiri’s distinctive split-point hem, a sharp architectural angle that mirrors the movement and rhythm of the Kumo series. Princess-style shaping seams refine the body fit without sacrificing ease, giving the shirt its clean, sculpted profile.
Balanced, expressive, and quietly technical — the KIRI Wrap Shirt teaches core principles of curved sewing, diagonal construction, collar shaping, and wrap mechanisms while still remaining approachable at Skill Level 3.
A rewarding build for intermediate sewists and confident beginners looking to expand their garment-making vocabulary.
