One of the early ones

This is one of the first patterns I drafted. It is a full course with the same build-along treatment as everything else — but it predates the sizing system and the drafting standards used across the newer catalogue, so expect fewer sizes and a rougher-looking sheet.

It still builds, and it is still one of the most trusted early ones. For the current standard, look at the Yard Jacket or anything released recently.

No film for this one — but you're not on your own

This is an early pattern and never got its own build-along. The construction is trouser construction, so the Keystone Denims film walks you through nearly all of it — fly, pockets, waistband, seams. The shape here is different, the method is not.

Worth being straight with you: the tiling on this one dates from when I was starting out, so it isn't as tidy as the newer sheets. The pattern itself still makes an excellent pair of jeans.

What to make it in

Denim (12–16 oz) — heavier weights hold the relaxed leg best
Selvedge denim if you want the outseam detail
Cotton duck or canvas for a workwear version
Heavy cotton twill for a softer, easier first build

Weights and sourcing are in the materials list that comes with the pattern.

LayeringLayered sizing is being added pattern by pattern — Gio and I are working through them in priority order. Every new release has it from the start.

Never printed a pattern before? The print & tiling guide covers it in about twenty minutes.

Before you cut

Measure the 2″ test square first. It's the only thing that goes wrong, and the only thing you can't undo. Print at 100%, from a laptop rather than a phone.

Buy a little more fabric than you need, and run the tricky part once in something cheap before you touch the good stuff.

Never made a pattern before? Start with the free ones — they're the same system, no risk.
