Four denim jackets. One pattern.

The Keystone Jacket is a modular denim jacket sewing pattern with a full-length video course. Four completely different fronts come off the same sheet of paper — and the sleeves, cuffs, waistband and front yoke never change, whichever one you build.

Which means you learn the jacket once. The construction you pick up on the easiest route carries straight into the hardest one.

THE FOUR FRONT ROUTES

A — Plain. Clean, unadorned trucker front. One panel, one facing. The way in.

B — Type I/II. Front pleats held by bar tacks, welt pocket on the inside. Heritage Americana.

C — Type III. Three-panel V-line front with the chest pocket built into the seam.

D — Roughcut. Curved front opening, integral utility pocket, and no yoke seam — the shoulder runs unbroken from collar to cuff.

SEVEN DECISIONS

Front route · Pocket · Back panel, plain or pleated · Yoke, classic or western · Collar, classic or western · Waist adjuster, classic buckle, Roughcut buckle or side cinch · Lined or unlined

Every combination works together. No two people who make this end up with the same jacket.

SIZING

XXS–3XL, layered. All measurements are finished garment, not body measurements.

Most Roughcut patterns run oversized. This one doesn't — it's drafted off original vintage denim jacket construction, so it's true to size and slightly cropped. The most reliable way to size it is to lay a jacket you already own and like the fit of flat, measure four points, and match the chart.

Your size is the same whichever route you build.

BEFORE YOU BUY

Seam allowance is ¼" and already included. Cut on your size line — don't add paper. Extra is added only where the sheet marks it.

Any machine that sews a straight stitch will build this. You don't need an industrial.

Made in 15oz selvedge denim in the tutorial, but selvedge isn't required — plenty of great jackets get made from ordinary wide denim at a third of the price. The Fabric Guide covers both.

Never sewn before? Don't start here. Grab the free Industrial Tote pattern, make that first, and come back.
