Drafting the future...

About Roughcut Patterns

The Beginning

I made my first pattern about a year ago — a one-size Ushanka cap, scanned straight from a handmade piece. I had no clue how to draft patterns properly, and to be honest, I wasn't sure if I even wanted to release them. At the time, it felt like giving away the blueprints behind my best work.

But I realised the magic isn't in the paper — it's in the story, the process, and the way each garment comes to life when you build it yourself.

Why Roughcut Exists

When I first started sewing, almost everything I found was outdated or unhelpful: 1950s manuals, dusty PDFs, or beginner tote bag tutorials. Nothing spoke to people like me who actually wanted to make clothes they'd wear every day.

Roughcut is here to change that. Every pattern is designed to be accessible, wearable, and buildable — so you can learn the basics, push yourself further, and carve your own story through making.

Where We Are Now

Three years ago, I couldn't draft a pattern. Today, every Roughcut design is developed from scratch — and now I'm joined by Gio, my co-designer. Together, we've built more than half of the patterns on this site and will continue to refine every release going forward.

We're not here to gatekeep. Your stories are too important not to tell. Whatever your skill level, you can sew — and it's nowhere near as scary as it looks.
