THE PERSON BEHIND IT
Jack M.
FOUNDER β€” ROUGHCUTMYOG
Est. January 26, 2019
THE ORIGIN

One person. One machine. A refusal to buy what already existed.

Roughcut started on January 26th, 2019.

But the building started long before that.

Nine years of self-teaching. YouTube. Books. Trial and error.

No fashion degree. No formal training.

Just a need to make something that didn't exist yet.

"The consumer and the maker are two completely different people."

The people who found Roughcut were in the exact same position I was.

Self-taught. Creative. Motivated.

But with no clear path. No structure. No one showing them how to actually get started.

That's when sharing the blueprint stopped feeling like giving something away.

And started feeling like multiplying it.

THE BUILD

I didn't just want to make patterns. I wanted to build a system.

The first pattern was the Ushanka cap.

People built it and loved it. But it taught me what needed to improve.

So I went deep. 3D garment rendering software. Pattern grading across sizes. Building complete systems from scratch.

That's when Gio came in as co-designer. And Vince joined to help bring the tutorials together.

We work on this almost every day.

Improving. Refining. Building.

9+ YEARS BUILDING 23+ PATTERNS 1,200+ MAKERS
THE PHILOSOPHY: WHAT IT STANDS FOR
πŸ›

HISTORY-LED DESIGN

Every pattern references something that already survived centuries. Military surplus. Renaissance craft. Archaeological structure. Not trend.

πŸ”©

PROCESS OVER PRODUCT

The pattern is the blueprint. The video is the class. The goal was never to sell a PDF.

🌍

BUILT ANYWHERE

New York. Italy. Thailand. Egypt. On basic machines. To prove the machine doesn't matter.

βš”οΈ

AGAINST THE DISPOSABLE

One handmade piece vs a Β£1.86 dropship fake. Make something that lasts. Make something that means something.

THE LIFE

I travel the world with my sewing machine.

Different countries. Different environments. Building one-of-one pieces. Experimenting. Testing. This account is literally my life.

This is only the beginning.

Whether you support by downloading a free pattern, building your first jacket, or just watching the tutorials β€” I genuinely appreciate it.

Roughcut is art. Education. Experimentation. And the community that forms around all of that.
