The Pattern

A complete coverall construction system

One-Piece
Skill Level 3 / 5

1 Service Coveralls

Walks you through the entire construction logic of a coverall — without the braces or heavy modular hardware found in the Service Dungarees. How the body is panelled, how zips integrate through the torso, how collars, sleeves and legs interact, and how workwear proportions affect movement and comfort.

The result is wearable and durable — not costume. Wear it loose and utilitarian, or refine it with lighter fabrics for a cleaner workshop look.

Skill Level

Skill Level 3 / 5

A structured but approachable introduction to full-body garment construction. Simpler than the Service Dungarees — fewer hardware components, no brace system — but still walks you through the complete build logic of a mechanic-style coverall.

Full garment panelling & layout
Zipper installation with clean facings
Collar construction & attachment
Sleeve & armhole integration

Fabric & Hardware Guidance

Built into the pattern itself

All recommended fabric weights, materials and hardware options are built directly into the pattern. Clear guidance helps you choose fabric type and weight, zipper length and style, thread and needle setup, and hardware options if used — supporting both first-time coverall builds and more refined versions.

Printing Correctly

📐 Printing Box

  • Files included for A0, A4 and US Letter
  • Print at 100% / actual size — never "scale to fit" (print guide included)
  • Measure the 2" × 2" test square before cutting any fabric (has to be perfect)
  • Print from a laptop/computer for the most reliable print settings
  • A0 files can be taken to a local print shop
  • Printed & Shipped is also available if you'd rather skip tiling & sticking at home

📎 Tiling Pages?

If you're printing at home on A4 or US Letter, your pages need tiling and sticking together before cutting fabric. Full instructions — tiling, sticking, cutting and pre-production — are covered on the Help page.

Seam Allowance

✂️ Seam Allowance Box

  • Every Roughcut pattern (except a few early patterns like the Ushanka Cap and Duffle Bag) already has 1/4" seam allowance built in
  • Cut directly on the pattern line — no need to add anything
  • Hems, pockets, flat-felled seams and hardware areas may use different allowances — these are stated in the pattern guidance
  • If unsure, refer to the construction roadmap before cutting

⚠ First Build? Read This First

  • Buy a little extra fabric — mistakes happen while learning, and there's no room for re-cutting otherwise
  • Don't cut your final fabric until your test square is correct
  • This pattern has no video tutorial yet — read through the full construction roadmap before cutting into good fabric
  • Use scrap or cheap test fabric to practise tricky steps if unsure

DOMESTIC
MACHINE
